Mehmet Kansu, a Turkish Cypriot, was born in Paphos, Cyprus. He has been writing poems and short stories for the last 28 years. He was graduated from Ankara University, Turkey where he studied Turkish literature. He worked as a secondary school teacher and later he became an adult educator. He was an advisor and assistant director at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

He was one of two poets who challenged the 'Old Poetry' and opened a new period which was then named as as ' The Second New Poetry Movement '

He is in charge of the ' Art and Culture ' page for the daily newspaper Halkin Sesi. Currently, he is a member of the board of directors of The Centre For Cypriot Studies at the Eastern Mediterranean University and a member of the executive committee of Turkish Artists and writers Union.

M. Kansu has written six poetry books, a book of short stories, and a book of essays. His works also appear in the daily newspapers Yeni Duzen, Ortam, Halkin Sesi, Avrupa, and Kibris.
