Louroujina Mosque and its minaret

Louroujina Mosque was built in about 1890. The builder in charge was Mustafa Yusuf Musko, from our village, renown for his building skills. The mosque was without a minaret until 1932. In 1925, Münür Bey (Sir Münür) was a member of the Legislative Assembly (Kavanin). Sir Münür promised to build a minaret for the mosque on the condition that the villagers support him in the next election for the Kavanin. Unfortunately though, Sir Münür, broke his promise even he won the elections. In the 1930 elections, Necati Özkan ran against Sir Münür and this time Necati Özkan promised a minaret to the people of Louroujina. Necati Özkan won the elections. He  kept his promise, and in 1932, a minaret was built for The Louroujina Mosque. N. Özkan arranged that the funding for the building of the minaret was provided by Evkaf.  The minaret was built under the formanship of Karakanna, a famous Greek Cypriot builder from Kaimakli.
